Huntington Ingalls Industries

Huntington Ingalls Industries, or HII, is a U.S. defence shipbuilder and mission-technologies company listed on the NYSE as HII. It operates Newport News Shipbuilding, Ingalls Shipbuilding and Mission Technologies. The latter includes uncrewed systems, C5ISR, electronic warfare, artificial intelligence and training work. HII describes itself as the largest U.S. military shipbuilder and a major producer of unmanned underwater vehicles.

Key Products

  • REMUS UUVs - a family of unmanned underwater vehicles for missions including mine countermeasures and underwater reconnaissance.
  • Lionfish Small UUV - a small unmanned undersea vehicle produced at HII’s Pocasset, Massachusetts facility under contract to the U.S. Navy. Designed for mine countermeasures, ISR, ASW, and electronic warfare missions deployable from surface ships or submarines.
  • ROMULUS USVs - unmanned surface-vessel concepts and programmes supported by HII autonomy technology.
  • GRIMM Electronic Warfare System - an electronic warfare system developed within the Mission Technologies segment, debuted in 2025.

Business and Funding

HII reported fiscal-2025 revenue of $12.5 billion. Its investor-relations site published second-quarter 2026 results and a Form 10-Q on July 30, 2026. The company is headquartered in Newport News, Virginia.

Why It Matters

HII connects traditional naval-industrial capacity with the Navy’s interest in uncrewed underwater and surface systems. That position can help it integrate autonomy into fleet programmes, but it also means public financial performance is dominated by shipbuilding and wider mission work rather than a pure UUV revenue stream. The material question is whether individual uncrewed programmes convert from experimentation into funded production and support work.
