What It Is

WISPR Systems designs, assembles and supports small uncrewed aircraft in Mississippi, from a base in Batesville, for buyers who need domestically sourced hardware: federal agencies, public safety departments, utilities and infrastructure operators. Its work is inspection and mapping — surveying, construction progress, powerline patrol — not defense.

The company’s commercial argument is compliance rather than capability. It builds to NDAA sourcing rules and markets US design, assembly and lifecycle support, which is what separates it from cheaper foreign platforms in the procurement categories it targets.

Products

SkyScout 2 and SkyScout 2+, introduced on 10 September 2025, are the current platforms and supersede the original SkyScout launched in 2024. The company gives payload capacity of 1.65 kg without a flight time penalty and PathGuard obstacle detection covering roughly 50 metres front and rear.

SkyBoss, the controller bundled with the 2+, has a seven-inch 2,000-nit display, a MIL-STD-810 drop rating, IP55 weather protection, AES-256 encrypted transmission, hot-swappable batteries and a stated runtime of up to six hours.

The company has integrated Gremsy camera gimbals — the Pixy SC-24, Pixy LR, Vio and Zio — with the SkyScout line since 2024.

Compliance Position

The SkyScout 2+ earned Green UAS certification from AUVSI in February 2026 and Blue UAS Cleared List approval, announced 28 April 2026, from the Defense Contract Management Agency. Under the current framework, Green UAS certification carries automatic eligibility for the Blue list, so the second approval followed from the first rather than representing a separate evaluation.

Business Position

WISPR is privately held. It discloses no funding, revenue or backlog, and no named customers or contract awards have been made public. It reaches buyers through a dealer network: it announced a distribution partnership with DSLRPros on 25 June 2026, and Frontier Precision and Dronefly also carry the line.

As of 4 September 2026 the company’s own site, wisprsystems.com, does not respond — requests time out on both HTTP and HTTPS, from multiple networks and from an ordinary browser — and the last Internet Archive capture of it is dated 29 July 2026. The domain registration runs to February 2027 and its DNS records still resolve, so this is a hosting failure rather than a lapsed domain. Nothing in the public record explains the outage, and nothing suggests the company has stopped trading: the DSLRPros partnership is two months old, dealers still list the SkyScout 2 line, and the company’s LinkedIn page is active. No website link is given until the site returns.

Why It Matters

Blue UAS clearance is a procurement key, not a contract. It removes the compliance objection for federal buyers and for anyone spending federal grant money, which is the barrier that has kept many US public safety agencies on ageing fleets. WISPR now has that key for a platform that is genuinely built and assembled domestically.

What it does not have, at least not publicly, is evidence it can convert eligibility into volume. The Blue list has grown considerably, several better-capitalised US manufacturers hold the same clearance, and WISPR’s product sits in the crowded inspection-quadcopter class rather than anywhere defensible. With no disclosed customers, revenue or funding, there is nothing in the public record that shows the compliance position turning into a business.
