Rheinmetall

Rheinmetall is a German defence technology group listed in Frankfurt as RHM. Its businesses include vehicles, ammunition, air defence, digital systems and naval systems. Its products relevant to uncrewed operations include short-range air-defence and counter-drone systems, military digitalisation and uncrewed aircraft integration. The company acquired naval capabilities in 2026, expanding its maritime portfolio.

Key Products

  • Lynx KF41 - an infantry fighting vehicle in production for Hungary and under consideration by several other NATO members
  • HX series trucks - military logistics vehicles in service with multiple NATO armies
  • Skyranger - a short-range air defense system integrating a 35mm autocannon with radar and optionally a missile component, designed for counter-drone and low-altitude air defense
  • Skynex and Skyranger - ground-based air-defence systems relevant to countering drones and other short-range aerial threats.

Business and Funding

For the first half of 2026, Rheinmetall reported sales of EUR5.227 billion, operating result of EUR786 million and backlog of EUR80.5 billion at June 30. Air Defence sales were EUR478 million, up 62% year on year, with progress on Skynex and Skyranger programmes cited as a driver. The company reduced its fiscal-2026 sales guidance to EUR13.7 billion to EUR14.2 billion after cancellation of the F126 frigate programme; that is guidance, not reported revenue.

Why It Matters

Rheinmetall is important to counter-drone coverage because its air-defence portfolio is entering production programmes as European militaries rebuild short-range defences. The company-wide growth is substantial, but it includes vehicles, ammunition and other lines; it should not be re-labelled as UAS revenue. The F126 cancellation also demonstrates why guidance and backlog do not guarantee a smooth revenue path. The relevant evidence is installed system performance and the conversion of air-defence awards into delivered capability.
