DJI Mini 4K

DJI's cheapest drone and a sound first one: 4K, a three-axis gimbal and GPS hold under 250 g, but no obstacle sensing. DJI's US store now lists it as discontinued.

The DJI Mini 4K is DJI’s entry-level folding drone: 246 g, a 12 MP camera on a three-axis gimbal, 4K video at up to 30 fps, and $299 on DJI’s US store. It is the cheapest DJI worth owning, and the one the best personal drone guide suggests to anyone who has never flown.

It is also on its way out of the American market. On 29 September 2026 DJI’s US store listed it as discontinued. It was still on Amazon’s US site at $299, sold by a third-party seller rather than by DJI.

All figures are DJI’s published specifications, from the specification page it shares with the Mini 2 SE, checked on 29 September 2026. FlightBrief has not flown the aircraft.

There is no obstacle avoidance. The only sensor points down and holds the drone steady over the ground. Nothing stops it flying into a tree, forwards, backwards or on the way home.

DJI lists no heavier battery for the Mini 4K, so unlike the Mini 4 Pro there is no configuration that takes it over 250 g.

Use Cases

A first drone for learning to fly, where a $299 aircraft is easier to risk than a $759 one. Holiday and family video where 4K at 30 fps is enough. Travel, where a sub-250 g drone avoids registration for recreational flying in the US and Canada. The EU registers the operator of any camera drone whatever it weighs, and the UK and Japan register from 100 g.

Market Context

The Potensic ATOM 2 is the non-DJI alternative at about the same price, with a larger 1/2-inch 48 MP sensor. It too has no obstacle avoidance. The Mini 4K has DJI’s app, O2 transmission and a wider dealer network behind it.

DJI’s newest aircraft cannot be sold in the US, because foreign-made drones were added to the FCC’s Covered List in December 2025. The Mini 4K was on sale well before that, which is why stock still turns up, but DJI’s own store no longer offers it.
