The Potensic ATOM 2 is a folding consumer drone under 249 g with a 1/2-inch 48 MP sensor, 4K video at 30 fps, and a list price of $329.99. It is the drone that comes up whenever someone asks what to buy instead of a DJI Mini without spending DJI money, and in 2026 it has a second role: it is one of very few sub-250 g camera drones from a non-DJI maker that can still be bought new in the United States.

Potensic is a Shenzhen company. The ATOM 2 holds an FCC equipment authorisation from before the December 2025 Covered List addition, which is why it stays on sale when its successor, the ATOM 3, cannot be.

Use Cases

A first camera drone for someone who wants sub-250 g weight, real 4K and a proper gimbal without spending $700. Travel footage in open landscapes, where the lack of obstacle avoidance matters least. Buyers in the United States who want a new non-DJI aircraft under 250 g and have found that most of the field is now blocked from sale.

Market Context

Potensic states plainly that the ATOM 2 has no obstacle avoidance. That is the whole trade. A DJI Mini 4 Pro costs more than twice as much and sees in every direction; the ATOM 2 relies on the pilot. For a careful flyer in open country that is fine. For someone learning in a garden with trees, it is the feature most likely to save the aircraft.

The best personal drone guide names it best budget drone for 2026, and the reasoning has not changed: it is the most credible alternative to DJI at the price, not because it matches DJI but because everything cheaper cuts something more important. Holy Stone’s sub-250 g models sit below it on sensor and video, and its 2026 flagship weighs 666 g, which puts it into registration territory in the US.

The ATOM 3 arrived in June 2026 with a 1/1.3-inch sensor, 4K/60 and 40 minutes of flight, and is the better aircraft everywhere it can be sold. In the United States it cannot be, for the same FCC reason as the DJI Mini 5 Pro, which leaves the ATOM 2 as the current Potensic in America.
